Going Gnomish

When I was using GNU Gnome on RedHat, little did I know, I was going Gnomish.

Being an outdoor person, I usually live in my garden with a few Gnomes, a fish pond and many visiting friends. Since we do not have names in the wild, I more or less remember people by their democratic identities, much beyond name and form.

One fine day , somewhere in the future past, maybe the present, or likely in my path, was the idea. Right in front of me, it was the solution, to much of our struggles against the elements, going gnomish was the solution and the vision was clear, that of a hollow log, and from this was born the Dojo, let us carve a log!

Let us carve a Log.

We need to find a natural hollow log, to crawl into with a sleeping bag, it is a natural shelter, for an average person, you need a diameter of 24 inches or more, for a gnome, you need a much smaller one.

You get all year round protection from rain and snow, and if there is flooding the log even floats!

If there is no natural hollow log, you need to hollow out a log.

A fallen log is easy to hollow out, you can use a chisel and hammer or controlled burning with ambers.

The chisel and hammer is easy and it is self explanatory to carve a hollow.

Burning ambers is a lot more complicated and is the subject of another Dojo.

The first Dojo of Wilderness Dojo was held on 06/15/2019 at 3.00 PM. It successfully demonstrated automated teaching by A.I using my simple show, an A.I based video talk maker.

Added to this are the Alexa on-boarding skills and Mentor skills, to demonstrate the practicality of A.I voice assisted technologies, these skills will be incorporated in the next Dojo session.

This Dojo series on making a D.I.Y Bio-lite kind of vortex flame combustion, called an external combustion engine, with hardware and software development will continue in five Dojos, spanning more than a month. The first of which was successfully conducted.

Dojo 002

This dojo is on a power hack, using pennies as a power source for emergency power.

In this dojo we use a penny coin with a carbon cloth electrode and special paper with NaCl solution to build a copper fuel cell which produces 0.34 volts across it. With three or more such cells we get about 1 volt which can be unconverted to a 5 volt bus.

This simple hack can use unused copper pennies and provide much needed power in a survival scenario.

We next research a quick hydrogen fuel cell with platinum cloth and PEM membrane, easily available in the resupply kit. The purpose of this micro cell is to harvest hydrogen from waste plastic by dissolving it in acetone and treating it with a secret enzyme to release hydrogen. The enzyme is kept a secret for you to discover for yourself.

Is a Wilderness Ninja a Backpacker?

As a Wilderness Ninja, you have many paths, one is backpacking, with a spirituality of mindful backpacking, another is AirBnB and the third is to use caches, hiker boxes and resupply routes, with little or no baggage.

I have succeeded in true wilderness survival, like the druids and monks, carrying only a mylar blanket and an optional blanket, surviving on a natural knowledge of edible plants, or sometimes living on water and sunlight alone.

While most normal mortals, cannot achieve this, there is always the option of AirBnB, for as little as $15 you can get a comfortable couch to spend the night, but since a tent outdoors is more comfortable, the plus point is the WiFi stability, and access to free laundry and surplus grid power.

There is always a local church or temple, where shelter and help is available, so note down the contacts and coordinates of these places and have GPS to locate caches on your smart-watch.

The true option is mindful backpacking, day packing or traveling with a monk bag. You can travel with the bare minimum, the lightest sleeping bag, the smallest tent and the minimum food and clothing. This is where survival dojos fit in. Even if you loose the baggage, the minimum of which you use in backpacking, as a Ninja, you can survive, in peace with the elements, till you hit a cache and resupply.

Geocaching.com has the location of caches, in backpacking, you always leave something for the next hiker, if you take something and you always shun excess supplies to a published cache.

Dojo 001

This hack is about Fire, at Wilderness Dojo we believe that fire is one of the elements, we do not fight it, we never stole it, and it is natural. Fire is an essential part of spirituality and wilderness living.

In this hack, we use waste in a circular process to create a portable controlled fire cache, similar to Bio-Lite.

Gasifier wood stoves, are a timeless, open technology. We recommend using waste paper or rags with waste vegetable oil, when leaves, twigs and pine cones are not available.

Any used beverage can can be used with small pebbles as lava stones for stability and gasification, with a small metal tube and an aquarium air pump for aeration. This is essentially an external combustion engine.

There are two hacks, external combustion control by controlling the motor of the aquarium pump and a peltier for powering the aquarium air pump and charging AAA rechargeable batteries.

A peltier is available for a few dollars and is part of our wilderness kit, for heating water, warmth to avoid hypothermia and for cooling yourself in hot climates.

Every Dojo makes you a Wilderness Ninja. We are volunteer based, and have a system of Dojo Champions, Mentors and Ninjas.

Dojos have many variations on a theme, some are in libraries where innovation labs exist and some in the woods, where we apply innovations and use our designs, in harmony with the elements.

Mutter Gottlich has the motto, Restore and Heal(TM), it is designed like a mutual, with no leadership model, rather a natural synergy based on the Lean A.I philosophy. We use A.I fro the organization and restore and heal(TM).

Heal is to heal ourselves from the excesses of an imbalance of life, the projection of possession, consumerism and ennui. It is to restore the balance of Nature back into our lives. Nature is our classroom and the restoration of balance is the Life Long Learning model.

Natural Genome is our wealth, and to restore and preserve it, we use a biodiversity principle. In Wilderness Dojo and Coder Dojo, we develop the technology, hacks and sciences to achieve this.

Wilderness Survival Episode I

Welcome to Wilderness Survival, a practical Shambhala religion in practice.

In this episode we are going to design, multi point injection, external fuel combustion engines using the Venturi Engine for air injection.
Solid fuel in the form of WVO and pellets or any biomass needs gassification for a dual gassified external combustion.
This would need the following manifolds for the engine E:
E.gassifier
E.cannister
E.air_jet_injection_i
E.venturi_engine
E.fan
We can modify any beverage can for the cannister, we need to open out the top of the can.
We use a raspberry pi fan for the fan for forced air propulsion, here is what I bought on Amazon.
Material: ABS. Size: 30×30×7mm

We need to design the forced air injection manifolds, we will start with a simple single manifold design and then prove that seven is optimal.

We also need to design a venturi engine manifold for the fan for attachment to the canister, with space for a peltier, for power generation for the fan and to charge as many AAA batteries as needed.
The cannister is 6.6 cms in diameter, the fan 3 cms in length.
We use a standard engine intake manifold for the forced air injection.

To deign the air jet injection we use a 1.3 cm cylinder, or length 3.3 cm.
For the venturi engine, we use a second beverage can and add the 3.3 cm pipe horizontally, in a later version we can change the injection angle if necessary, since we can change the fan propulsion control and feedback control to compensate.

The height of the beverage can is 11.6 cms and the height of the air intake manifold is 8.816 cms 
The manifold is to be adjustable at the bottom and can be varied for increased performance. The bottom of the manifold can is open and is reinforced by the fan mounting mechanism.
